For a little bit of fun, but mostly experience, I made a book trailer for a work in progress.
It’s not the greatest thing in the world, but for an afternoon’s work and considering all I had was a bunch of clips and a copy of Movie Maker (which I’d never used before – in fact, I’ve never used any movie-making software), I think I’ve done pretty well.
I’d be interested to know what you think about:
- what works
- what doesn’t
- where it could be improved.
I know I’ve got a huge list of things I’d change if I had the right skills and the time (including an image of actual book cover at the end), but please let me know your thoughts about anything else you notice isn’t working for you, or you would change/add/alter (in the comments section or elsewhere).
It’s a great start. As a book reader, it catches my attention, but I need more detail to say it’s a book I’d want to read.
Thanks Eileen! I agree. I’d like to produce several trailers – this one being the short, attention-grabbing version, with a more detailed version (or two) to follow it up, each one with a different tone.
Hi Chris, I would get someone to do a review of the book, and then you can put up some excerpts of the review
And someone to do some voice overs for you – that way you can say more and just leave some key points as text.
A voiceover would be great! I’ll certainly do that for a longer trailer. Thanks for commenting!
Definitely on the cards Caroline, as soon as I get it to a publishable state – this book’s currently a work in progress at the editing stage.
