Okay, I’ve been a bit slack here lately – but I’ve got an excuse. Several, actually.
Firstly, I’ve been writing (rewriting) the sequel to Prophecy of Power: Quarry, as well as another project.
Secondly, I’ve written two guest blog posts – the first has just gone live on the wonderful Jen Christopherson’s website – a Q&A. The other will go up in a few weeks or so (I’ll post the link when it’s available).
Thirdly, I’m preparing for the possibility of self-publishing. As part of that I’ve been playing with covers and have uploaded my epic fantasy novel to CreateSpace.
It took a lot more work than I’d anticipated, but the end result is that I’ve ordered some proofing copies.
If traditional publishing doesn’t pan out, I’ll publish the book myself.
If you want to know more about the project, I’ve posted several chapters of Prophecy of Power: Quarry online.
Good luck if you do decide to self publish. It’s a scary step to take, and requires heaps of work, but I’ve no doubt you’d succeed.
Thanks Lynda. If I go down that path it’ll be for personal rather than commercial reasons, but I’ll take any success that comes my way. 😀
It all sounds excitingly scary. Good luck!
Thanks!
Hi Chris
I’ve had an email from your blog in my inbox for a few days now, waiting for some free time to respond (there never seems to be free time though!).
For some reason I thought you had already gone down the self-publishing route and so this post was a surprise – I wish you well with it. I’ve been reading a bit about SP and am all for it myself, especially for ebook versions. I figure if your ebook is a success then you can approach/be approached by a traditional publisher about the hard copy rights (eg Hugh Howey).
I’m excited about the prospect of self publishing, even though I am aware there are challenges. I’d recommend “APE” by Guy Kawasaki as a place to start if you have’t read it already and then “Let’s Get Visible” by David Gaughran.
Did you consider going through Kindle Direct Publishing rather than CreateSpace?
Thanks Chris,
Inger
Thanks Inger – I’ll definitely take a look at those books. CreateSpace is an Amazon company, with direct links to KDP. I looks pretty simple to move stuff from one to the other, and doing both costs nothing (though there are options to add services).
If I go that way, I’ll definitely be doing both at the same time.
